Republicans To Go Back On House Floor Discussing Gas Prices- Democrats Are On Vacation Posted: 04 Aug 2008 11:00 AM CDT Friday the Republicans took the floor of the House, using online means, Twitter and taking there own videos to distribute because the C-Span cameras were off. The Republicans are responding the majority of the public that is demanding the issue of gas prices and drilling be debated in conjunction with other solutions available. While the Republicans are fighting to to have this issue dealt with, the Democrats are all on vacation for 5 weeks, having left without dealing with it at all because Nancy Pelosi will not allow a vote on drilling because many House Democrats have indicated they would vote for it. YouTube video of the Republicans here. It was announced yesterday that the Republicans would do the same thing today as they did on Friday. As I pointed out yesterday, Malkin has published Pelosi's scheduled stops on her book tour, so if anyone is near those areas, stop in and ask her about drilling and why she is out promoting her book instead of dealing with the most important issue of the day as the republicans are. I will be updating as the day progress, so come back and make sure your popcorn is popped! John Boehner's press release: Washington, Aug 3 - House Republicans will be back on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives again Monday to continue the unprecedented protest that began last Friday, when dozens of Republicans joined hundreds of American citizens on the House floor to protest Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) decision to send Congress home for the rest of the summer without a vote on legislation to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence. . |
House Republicans To Take To The Floor Again On Monday On Gas Prices Posted: 03 Aug 2008 07:05 PM CDT [Update] Monday 8/4/08- Updates for today being shown here and here. They are pounding home the message and they are getting the word out via Twitter, and they are showing the country that Nancy Pelosi is taking a 5 week vacation, promoting her book, instead of dealing with the issue that the majority of Americans demand she deal with. The Republicans will take to the House floor again On Monday to discuss the number one issue on American's minds...gas prices, just as they did on Friday, which we followed along with to our great amusement. More than a dozen Republicans have already committed to make appearances, according to House GOP leadership aide, including National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.). What a great time for Republicans to make a stand and demand action, making sure that their words and the fact that THEY are willing to give up their vacation to do the people's business but that Pelosi would rather handle her own business. (selling books) Malkin has Pelosi's schedule up, so those in her area can show up at her book events and ask her why she isn't on the floor of the House dealing with the high gas prices. NewsBusters shows that George Stephanopoulos pounded Pelosi into the ground about her negligence and her refusal to allow an up or down vote on drilling. (She knows it would pass) Good for Stephanopoulos for continuing to hammer the subject. Transcript at the link. Monday should be interesting and we will, of course, be bringing you all the updates as the day progresses. GO GOP!!!! . |

John McCain Vetting Eric Cantor As VP Choice Posted: 03 Aug 2008 01:28 PM CDT Eric Cantor, Congressman from Virginia has been asked and has provided records to the John McCain campaign in the vice presidential vetting process. Eric Cantor is 45 years old and he has been a congressman for the U.S. House of Representatives since 2001. From Wikipedia as a reference: During his first term in office, Cantor was selected to serve as Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare. He has also served on the House Financial Services Committee and on the House International Relations Committee and the very powerful House Ways and Means Committee. Since his second term, he has served as chief deputy Republican whip, the highest appointed position in the Republican caucus. Cator's voting record can be seen at the On The Issues site, divided into separate issues and how he voted with the year of those particular votes. On capitol hill Cantor is known as "squeaky clean" and has been a proficient fundraiser in key states including Missouri, New Jersey and New York. Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and one of the nation's most influential evangelical leaders, recently praised Cantor as a potential McCain running mate, calling him rock-solid on social issues — a huge concern for Christian conservatives with the maverick McCain at the top of the ticket. Cantor joins Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Rob Portman on a the list of possibilities of VP picks for John McCain. . |
