Posted: 26 Aug 2008 10:37 AM CDT Video above is of one news account about the plot, with an interview with one of the suspects involved. YouTube URL found here. Update on the story that broke last night about an assassination plot to kill Barack Obama. There have been four people arrested at this time in relation to the plot. They had rifles, ammunition, walkie talkies, a bullet proof vest, wigs, a spotting scope, licenses in the names of other people, and drugs. CBS4 speaks to a suspect involved in what appears to be a disorganized assassination plot to kill Barack Obama. Brian Maass from CBS4, seen in the video above, asked the suspect "So your friends were saying threatening things about Obama.? His reply was "yeah". One of the suspects admitted to the authorities that they were "going to shoot Obama from a high vantage point using a ... rifle ... sighted at 750 yards." The plan, which a U.S. government official familiar with the investigation says these men might not have had the ability to carry out such a plot, according to one of the suspects, Nathan Johnson, was a plan to "kill Barack Obama at his acceptance speech." The reasoning given was stated to be because he was black.
No word has been given on what links the suspects together nor if there will be any further arrests, but the authorities are stating that there is no credible threat against Barack Obama at this time nor to the people of Colorado. The case is still under investigation with the Secret Service, FBI, ATF and the joint terrorism task force all participating. . |
Obama '08 Urges DOJ to Quash McCain Ad - McCain Comes Back Strong Posted: 26 Aug 2008 09:41 AM CDT Cross-posted by Maggie at Maggie's Notebook
Obama Ayers Ad Text: John McCain wants to spend $10 Billion a month in Iraq, tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas, selling out American workers. The letter from Obama's General Counsel, Robert Bauer, to John C. Kenney, Deputy Assistant Attorney General, DOJ Criminal Division was followed with letters to selected television station managers, written on Barack Obama letterhead, and signed by Bauer. Addressed to "Dear Station Manager," the letters accuse AIP of "attempts to associate Barack Obama...with terrorism and acts of terror."According to Politico.com [follow the links to pdf files of the letters] Barack Obama is also threatening to "punish the stations" that run the AIP ads by organizing Obama activists to boycott the station's advertisers. In the DOJ communication, Counsel Bauer states that a "magic word" is used in the McCain ad - the word "elect," which Bauer argues is purposed to "question the qualifications and merits" of Obama's candidacy, as well as asserting that AIP violates Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations: ...this "Project" is not following that Act [Federal Election Campaign Act]: it is flouting it. It has not registered as a political committee with the Federal Election Commission; it is not complying with limits on funds donated; and it is not reporting in the manner and on the schedule required of a political committee. Jennifer Rubin at Commentary Magazine, reports the following reaction from a McCain spokesman: Obama's lame defense of the relationship–that he was eight when Ayers committed his crimes–is, of course, entirely irrelevant. His association with Ayers, as Hillary Clinton pointed out in the Philadelphia debate, ran deeper than he has tried to present it and it began and continued when both men were adults, long after Obama had become acquainted with Ayers's past.Legal actions have also been taken against the Obama campaign, the DNC and the Federal Election Board on the issue of Barack Obama's citizenship. A quote from the McCain campaign sums it up for both sides: "We're off to the races on this." Article end My thanks to Susan at Wake up America. |
Islamophobes Working Hard to Marginalize Moderate Muslims - What?? Posted: 25 Aug 2008 09:24 PM CDT Cross posted from Radarsite Islamophobes [That's Us, Folks] Working Hard to Marginalize Moderate Muslims
A note from Radarsite: Well, here it comes: the Muslim spin cycle. Should we really be that surprised? Once again, the poor downtrodden Muslims are being misunderstood and the Religion of Peace is being maligned. And who are the evil forces at work this time, busily manipulating the facts and slandering Islam? Why it is none other than the "necon" Islamophobes. And who are these dark entities? Our intrepid Muslim reporter lists three: Atlas Shrugs, The Gates of Vienna, and yours truly, Radarsite. Thank you for that AMJ; I am honored to be in such fine company. But, I'm left to wonder -- is there anyone out there who will actually fall for this claptrap? the answer, unfortunately, seems to be, Yes. There are still those liberal PC multicultural types who will eat this up, and automatically rally to the defense of the persecuted Muslims. And just what are some of these lies about the good Ingrid Mattson that we are promulgating? Well, here's just one for starters: ISNA, a group related to the violent Muslim Brotherhood, was named by the U.S. government a co-conspirator for a 2007 federal trial which dealt with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas. Also, as recently as last month, under Mattson's watch, ISNA propagated material on its national website calling for the murder of Jews and the waging of war against Jews and Christians. The violent ISNA documents can be viewed here. For those of you who may not have read the previous article, you can read the rest here. We simply cannot let them have the last word. Especially, when their last words are bold-faced lies. - rg |
Colorado Police Investigate Possible Assassination Plot Against Barack Obama Posted: 25 Aug 2008 09:09 PM CDT Authorities have arrested two men in Colorado and have scheduled a press conference for Tuesday at 4 pm, to speak about reports of a possible assassination plot against Barack Obama Yet, multiple media organizations, including CBS4 News, have been told by sources close to the investigation that authorities are delving into a possible assassination plot to kill Barack Obama. Gartrell was caught during a routine traffic stop where Aurora police found two rifles, one of which was described as a "sniper rifle" and methamphetamine in the man's pickup truck. Information led the police to the Cherry Creek Hotel, located at 600 South Colorado Blvd in Glendale and when they knocked on the door, a second man jumped out of a sixth floor window, landed on an awning and unsuccessfully attempted to run from the scene with a broken ankle from the fall. The Secret Service, ATF and the FBI are all involved in the investigation and the Secret Service have expressed their concern over the close proximity to the Democratic National Convention. According to another CBS4 article, the Aurora Police Department will not release any reports regarding this event, at the request of federal authorities. The scheduled a news conference was reported by The Denver Post. Rocky Mountain News alleges that two handguns were confiscated along with the two rifles. . |
DNC Protesters Say They Feel Like Political Prisoners Posted: 25 Aug 2008 07:04 PM CDT Video showing protesters as heavily armed police keeping them in the demonstration zone, found here and shown below. While the Democratic National Convention is kicking off it's first day with multiple speakers preparing to speak to the crowds inside, protesters outside the Pepsi Center are complaining about feeling like prisoners as heavily armed police surround them. Associated Press reports that the Recreate 68 group showed up and said they would not return after seeing the limitations of where they could move about while protesting the Democratic convention. The demonstration area is a 47,000-square-foot zone protesters have nicknamed the "Freedom Cage" The zone is approximately 700 feet away from the Pepsi Center where Democratic supporters, officials, delegates and lawmakers are conducting their convention. Mark Cohen who is an organizer for the Recreate 68 group tells reporters, "We're being treated by the city of Denver and the Secret Service like political prisoners, like pariahs," while he and his wife wear a red inverted triangle reminiscent of the type of symbol that political prisoners in Nazi Germany were made to war. Despite massive preparations for the planned protests by the state of Denver and Secret Service agents who are there to protect the high profile lawmakers and Michelle Obama, who speaks today at the convention, the turnout of protesters has been smaller than what was expected. It is the first day and many expect larger crowds tomorrow when Hillary Clinton speaks and there is speculation of a large turnout on the last day when Barack Obama is due to give his acceptance speech at the Invesco Field. According to IndyBay.org, the groups organizing the protests include, "Recreate 68, Alliance for Real Democracy, Unconventional Denver, DNC Disruption 08, Unconventional Action, World Can't Wait, and others." Some photos of the protesters can be found at Little Green Footballs. [Update] Riot gear and pepper spray brought out, as crowd starts to get out of control, according to Denver Post. Police had the protesters surrounded between Court Street and Cleveland along 15th Street and moved up reinforcements, including an Aurora armored vehicle. They have made at least one arrest. Cindy McCain Departs For War-Torn Georgia Posted: 25 Aug 2008 05:38 PM CDT During a fundraiser in Sacramento, California, John McCain told the crowd that his wife Cindy McCain is on her way to war-torn Georgia, where she will meet with officials, including Georgian President Mikheil Sakaasvili. As reported by TIME, Cindy McCain serves on the boards of multiple organizations and has been trying to get to Georgia since the Russia-Georgia war started but only recently was able to work out the logistics of the trip. McCain is traveling with the U.N.'s World Food Program, whose work she monitored in Southeast Asia and Africa this spring and summer. McCain planned to meet with Georgian President Mikheil Sakaasvili, and to visit with wounded Georgian soldiers. She would also visit representatives of the HALO Trust, which works to remove landmines and on whose board she serves. Cindy McCain speaks of the situation in Georgia right now, saying, "There's a very serious landmine issue now, because there are landmines being laid as we speak. There's a whole bunch of things going on right now, and as we begin to move refugees from point A to point B or try to feed refugees who are stuck in pockets around the country, we're now running into the issue of the blowing up of humanitarian vehicles that are trying to get to the refugees. So it's a whole morass of problems now." According to The Swamp, Cindy McCain has spent much of her life visiting war-zones and war-torn areas to provide humanitarian assistance. McCain has spent her life visiting places ruined by war in order to provide humanitarian assistance. She founded a voluntary medical relief group, which provided aid to people following natural disasters, wars and other crises. Cindy McCain says that her husband, John McCain is very supportive of her work, continuing on to state, "As soon as he saw what was happening — he and I, we connect on many levels, I mean he knew immediately (that she would want to go). I've been to Georgia with him, I know the country." Mrs. McCain's aides claim there was no direct correlation to the timing of her trip and the Democratic convention, but her aides are using the timing to point out, via McCain adviser Nicolle Wallace, "She's on the phone with the World Food Program, he's on the phone with Sakaashvili. It's like this great picture of what they'll be like in the White House." . |

Hillary Clinton: 'I Did Not Aprove This Message' Posted: 25 Aug 2008 01:21 PM CDT The Republican National Committee issues another ad, using Hillary Clinton's statement about Barack Obama's lack of experience. The video, found here and shown below, starts with the narrator asking, "Who has the experience to govern our nation?" Then it cuts to Hillary Clinton saying "Senator McCain would bring a lifetime of experience to the campaign, I would bring a lifetime of experience and Senator Obama will bring a speech he gave in 2002." The narrator continues then to say, "Barack Obama, he gives a great speech, but now Americans must ask ourselves, should we elect the most inexperienced presidential candidate of out times, or was she right?" They end with a picture of Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton said it, meant it, repeated it, but now that she has suspended her campaign, she says she, via Hot Air, does not approve the message. The Daily News provides the relevant quote: "And let me state what I think of those ads: I'm Hillary Clinton, and I do not approve that message." Most Hillary Clinton supporters understand that Clinton is doing and saying what she is obligated to do and say for the good of the party, but it does not lessen the truth of her previously spoken words regarding the lack of experience on the part of Barack Obama. More on the roll call vote that will be taken at the convention, showing it is nothing more than a formality to be done to "appease" Clinton supporters before crowning Obama the official status of nominee for the party. Democratic officials involved in the negotiations said Monday the idea is that at the start of the state-by-state vote for the presidential nomination Wednesday night, delegates would cast their votes for Clinton or Obama. In the meantime, via The Politico, Clinton is not offering guidance to her delegate supporters about who they should be voting for during the roll call vote. "I will be telling my delegates that I will vote for Barack Obama," she said. "How they vote is a more personal decision. They want to have their chance to vote for me. That is what traditionally happens ... some people are having to make up their minds because there are arguments pulling them both ways." How many truly believe that after the very rough start of the convention, reported on this morning, that unity is something they will achieve with Clinton supporters by the end of the convention? Those that do .... I have a bridge in Brooklyn I am selling......any takers? . |
